Many people in the pool community have predicted David McNamara to secure major silverware at some point in the near future, and given his record at junior level and on the senior circuit in recent years, who would disagree with them?
A keen footballer and cricketer, McNamara took up 8-ball pool when he was only 8-years-old. It wasn’t long before he was representing his county of Cheshire, and at 16, he earned his England colours. McNamara has been part of seven European Championship and four Nations Cup winning teams in the youth divisions.
As an individual, the passionate Liverpool FC fan has claimed regional, national and international accolades.
The year 2016 was a breakthrough period for the cueist they call ‘Deej’. He won an English Under-23 National Championship and the Merseyside Open, but his biggest triumph came in Killarney, Ireland when he was crowned World Under-23 Champion after an incredible comeback in the final where he denied his French opponent 7-6, having been 6-2 down.
Further tournament wins have come since then, although 2019 was when McNamara really established himself in major senior level events. He won the English Amateur Championship and reached the last four of both the International Open and Supreme Pool Series Grand Finals. In the latter, he only missed out on a final berth after losing via a deciding frame.
