Greg Batten (12)

Following his transition to the smaller table within the last decade, former English and Players Amateur Champion Greg Batten has established himself as one of the sport’s coolest customers.

An esteemed maximum break making snooker player in his youth, Batten initially turned to 8-ball pool at local and regional levels, building up his reputation and trophy cabinet with multiple victories on the South West Pool Tour.

He soon began to travel further afield; in 2015 he qualified as an England International and his breakthrough as an individual came the following year when he triumphed at the English Amateur Championship in Bradford.

Batten followed up that success with further deep runs in big events in 2017. At the lucrative Players Amateur Championship, he dethroned defending champion Craig Lakin in the last four and then got the better of Seb Web 11-4 in the final to collect the winner’s cheque. He also reached the semi-finals of the Supreme Masters and European Professional.

In 2018, Batten was ousted in the Scottish Open final.

Known for his astonishing card tricks and sleight of hand off the table, Batten weaved some magic on it during the inaugural Ultimate Pool Professional Series in 2021.

After a relatively slow start to the campaign, the Devonian conjured up a memorable match victory in Event 3, coming back from 6-2 down to defeat reigning six-time world champion Michael Hill, 7-6.

Confidence and results continued to rise for Batten during a very fruitful third weekend on the Series where he reached the semi-finals of Event 5 and the quarter-finals of Event 6.

Batten's strong finish to the season saw him finish 12th in the rankings - comfortably inside the elite top 16 who will all be seeded for the 2022 professional term.
