Jimmy Croxton (17)

If you’re going to stand out from the crowd in and around the pool hotbed that is Stoke-on-Trent, you need to be a special player – and that’s exactly what two-time professional event winner Jimmy Croxton is.

The talented Newcastle-under-Lyme cueman enjoyed a successful youth and amateur snooker career before turning to the smaller table; in 2000, he made the final of the English Under-15 Championship where he was pipped 5-3 by Judd Trump.

Following his transfer across, Croxton soon became a feared competitor on the 8-ball pool scene. He reached back-to-back finals at the English National Amateur Singles and won the 2008 Golden Cue Singles.

Croxton’s progress saw him turn professional, and he secured his first title at that level in Glasgow in 2013 when he won the Professional Cup.

In 2014, Croxton recorded his second top tier triumph, this time in Liverpool at the UK Professional Championship. His consistency amongst the sport’s elite saw him provisionally ranked as the number one professional.

In more recent times, Croxton came through four deciding frame finishes on his way to appearing in the final of the 2019 Supreme Masters – event two on that season’s ultra-competitive Supreme Pool Series. Effectively played to International 8-Ball Rules, Croxton was only denied the title by Karl Boyes via a deciding frame.

Croxton has enjoyed a solid start to life on the Ultimate Pool scene. He conjured up a memorable session of 8-ball pool during the early rounds of the 2021 Apply Mortgages Ultimate Pool Masters when he eliminated reigning six-time world champion Michael Hill 8-4 and then Morocco's Oussama Masskini 8-0. He lost to Rob Wharne in the last 16 via a 6-reds shootout.

On the inaugural Professional Series, Croxton reached the quarter-finals of Events 7 & 8. In only two of the eight events did he not pick up ranking points. He finished 17th in the end-of-season rankings, narrowly missing out on a top 16 place via countback.

His best result on the Ultimate Pool scene, so far, came at the 2022 Professional Grand Slam where he reached the semi-finals before narrow elimination to eventual winner Stevie Dempsey.
