Whilst exhibiting his bespoke brand of fast and attacking play, Shaun Chipperfield stunned planet pool in 2016 when – as a qualifier – he ran through a gauntlet of opponents to become a world champion.
The Norwich postman illuminated the tournament in Blackpool, winning nine consecutive matches at the Imperial Hotel, culminating in a rapid 11-4 victory over friend and fellow East Anglian cueist Karl Sutton – the then reigning European Champion – in the showpiece final. Chipperfield’s story was even more remarkable when you consider it was the first time that he had qualified for the venue stages of the championship.
‘Chippy’ has also won a UK Tour Challenge Event and reached the finals of the English Amateur National Singles and English Champion of Champion Singles. In 2019 he made the last four of the Supreme Pool Series Grand Final – an event effectively played to International 8-Ball Rules.
