Shaun Chipperfield (7)

Whilst exhibiting his bespoke brand of fast and attacking play, Shaun Chipperfield stunned planet pool in 2016 when – as a qualifier – he ran through a gauntlet of opponents to become a world champion.

The Norwich postman illuminated the tournament in Blackpool, winning nine consecutive matches at the Imperial Hotel, culminating in a rapid 11-4 victory over friend and fellow East Anglian cueist Karl Sutton – the then reigning European Champion – in the showpiece final. Chipperfield’s story was even more remarkable when you consider it was the first time that he had qualified for the venue stages of the championship.

‘Chippy’ has also won a UK Tour Challenge Event and reached the finals of the English Amateur National Singles and English Champion of Champion Singles. In 2019 he made the last four of the Supreme Pool Series Grand Final – an event effectively played to International 8-Ball Rules.

Since the sport's return after the Coronavirus lockdown, Chipperfield has been one of the most consistent performers with several deep runs in events. At the final World Rules Pool Tour Main Event of the 2021 season, he got his hands on a big trophy after defeating Clint I'Anson 8-6 in the Daventry final to claim the title.

Chipperfield continues to feature in the latter stages of Ultimate Pool events. The Norwich FC fan had semi-final finishes in Pro Series Events 1 and 3, and ended the inaugural 2021 season as the number seven ranked professional player. He also started the 2022 campaign well, being one of only two seeded players to reach the quarter-finals of the Professional Cup. Chipperfield followed that up with a last eight appearance in the Professional Grand Slam.

His finest moment on the Ultimate Pool scene so far, though, came at the 2021/22 Pairs Cup, where alongside friend and fellow East Anglian Karl Sutton, he won the major TV title.

The duo emerged from the first group of the competition with what would stand as the fastest 6-reds shootout time throughout the whole event. They returned a few months later to top their group in phase two to qualify for Finals Night where they defeated Andy Appleton & Michael Tomlinson in straight sets, 2-0, in the semi-finals.

In a memorable final, they ousted Declan Brennan & Ronan McCarthy in an epic 6-reds shootout after the match ended tied one-all in sets.

An accomplished snooker player, Chipperfield is also very adapt on the 9-ball pool table having won the 2012 GB9 Midlands Classic – defeating BCA Hall of Famer Darren Appleton along the way.
