Stevie Dempsey is proudly flying the flag for Ireland in the Ultimate Pool professional ranks and he has already tasted success after winning the 2022 Professional Grand Slam in front of the live television cameras.
Dempsey enjoyed a solid 2021 Ultimate Pool campaign, reaching the semi-finals of Pro Series Event 1 and finishing the season inside the elite top 16.
Described by himself as the best achievement of his career to date, Dempsey showed supreme matchplay qualities on his way to lifting the Grand Slam trophy and banking £14,000 in early 2022. He came through several tight finishes, ousting Jimmy Croxton 6-5 in the semi-finals and repeating that scoreline as he overcame Craig Waddingham in the title match.
Prior to this triumph, Dempsey’s finest moment in the sport came in 2007 when he was crowned champion of Europe following an 8-6 victory over Neil Davey in the final. He became the first – and to date, only – Irish winner of the main title. Champion at just 18-years-old, he was the youngest ever winner of the title, a record that still stands today.
Incredibly, Dempsey nearly became the first player to successfully retain the title as he reached the final again in 2008, although his reign was ended by Jason Twist.
